My first blog of 2017! Written in Bali, but only just found the time (and better wifi) to post it. Since my last post, I’ve spend 5 weeks in Bali, flew to Ireland to visit my sister and four weeks ago I returned home! I’ve started giving classes again (so happy to see ‘my’ kids!) and I finally have time to reflect on the past 7 months and look forward to what’s ahead.
So what’s new for me? As of now I am officially a Yoga Teacher! Oh dear (as my good friend Veronica from Austin would say). I still can’t believe it.
Yoga Bliss Lembongan
In the three weeks I’ve been there, I’ve done a 200-hour training. I’ve been trained in Ashtanga, Vinyasa, Yin Yoga, Yoga philosophy, anatomy and pranayama/meditation. We even learned a bit about Ayurveda, which I found very, very interesting. When we weren’t at the beautiful shala we studied our asses off in our homestays. Remembering asana (poses) names, breath counts, dristhi’s (focus points), places of tension and compression and everything about the history of yoga. I have to say, it was a BIG struggle sometimes, but in the end it was all worth it, because not only can I officially say I’m a yoga teacher, I also found a new profound passion in both teaching yoga and meditation, working with the energetic body AND I’ve met some beautiful souls along the way. Not just the teachers, but also the gorgeous women in this course have taught me so much, about yoga, but mostly about life itself. I am very, very thankful for that.

So what does this mean for Moving Educators? (Always looking ahead, but with my newly acquired knowledge, also really trying to live in the moment.) It has mostly been about dance education. But ever since I started doing yoga and meditation a couple of years ago I have integrated it in my classes. Now that I’m officially a yoga teacher, I know for a fact that it is of great value. So the basic idea of Moving Educators won’t change that much. It is still about moving educators, both from the inside & from the outside. But I will start doing more research into yoga and meditation in schools and it will be discussed more in the blog. For me it feels like this was the missing piece of the puzzle. The combination dance-yoga-medition to me seems just perfect. It suits me, it’s already integrated in my classes and it is a beautiful way to move with children.
